With Steven Spielberg's name attached as Executive Producer, the deep pockets of TNT and Dreamworks Television, Falling Skies had potential in the arid wasteland that is quality science fiction on television. The premier episode sadly falls flat. Another alien invasion, we knew that going in. What we didn't know was how one dimensional the character portrayals would be. The characters don't give us any reason to give a shit about their struggles or what may happen if they fail. Predictable action and scenes, lackluster writing, dialogue that seems forced, questionable small unit tactics, skitters and mechs that are less than believable. I'll give it at least one more chance, but as it stands, I'm not impressed.
