Monday marked the first rest day in the Tour de France. At least two of the competitors will have needed the scheduled time off. Spanish cyclist
Juan Antonio Flecha and Dutchman Johnny Hoogerland were setting the pace in the lead group during Stage 9, when in another case of a driver not paying attention to bicycles, a French television car tried to pass the breakaway group. Stupid trees, they’re always running out into the middle of the road. Flecha is struck, Hoogerland, behind is somersaulted into a barbed wire fence. Battered, bruised and sporting sutures both riders finished the stage losing more than 15 minutes in race time, but they did finish. Hope they were both wearing their Road ID's.
