I'm scrambling here, anyone got an ice axe I can use to check my descent and glissade safely into a blog entry? Between, the holidays I don't celebrate, general malaise, a lack of motivation (surprise), doctor's appointments and an occasional nap I seem to have lost my footing in the scree. I've still got a few yellow, digital sticky notes with blog thoughts posted on the desktop, so we should be good for next week. I've always got #FictionFridays and history lessons I can fall back to if things get really bleak.
I've had some rather poignant music playing lately, Natalie on New Year's day, and David today. I can't say I've always been a Natalie Cole fan as her earlier style wasn't necessarily what I liked at the time. With time, my likes as well as her style evolved. She attracted my attention with her "Unforgettable... with Love" release. The wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey cross-time duet with Nat sealed the deal for me. Call me a sucker, I like female jazz vocalists.
David "Ziggy, the Thin White Duke, Starman," Bowie on the other hand has been part of the playlist of my life for a very long time, probably since 1969 when Space Oddity was released eleven days before the Apollo 11 launch. If I remember correctly, don't quote me, I'm old and that was a LONG time ago, I renamed Major Matt Mason, in honor of the doomed astronaut. It's probably a safe bet that I also recreated the scenario of the song. My versions usually had happier endings as the rest of the boys, all of them, and sometimes an alien as well all showed up to rescue Mission Commander Major "Tom" Mason. I had them all, and a few duplicates, fortunately, their heads came off easily enough and were interchangeable giving me a few 'different' astronauts. I also had a cubic metric butt-ton of accessories. Damn, I wish I still had it all in mint, still in box condition.
Wow, this one took a wrong turn at Alberqwerky and headed off on a tangent rather quickly.
Natalie and David, thanks for what you've given us.
Thanks for bearing with me.
See you on Monday. Peace.
