The population of this tiny, pale blue dot is about seven and a half billion sheeples. I'm a member of a pretty exclusive club. World-wide there are about 125,000 of us. That's about the population of Hartford, Connecticut.
Actually, it's two exclusive clubs combining to make an even more private party. Ten to fifteen percent of Caucasian adults experience a change in eye color as they age. I'm in that group. Eyes that used to be a deep chocolate brown are now a dark hazel green/brown. I've always known I was different.
The next club is even more exclusive. Some of our members are:
- Dan Aykroyd, Actor, SNL alum, Elwood Blues.
- Tricia Helfer, Actress, Caprica Cylon #6, Battlestar Galactica.
- Ashton Kutcher, Actor, That 70's show, Two and a half men.
- Danielle Panabaker, Actress, The Flash, the Arrow, Justified.
- And though I wish he had never joined, Joseph Stalin was a member as well.
Not mine, mine are more pronounced. |
Whaddya mean? Ain't nothing weird about them. Especially, when for decades, each newborn clan member had their toes checked.
"Lemme see his feet? Yep, it's one of us..."
The genetic component of it made it a running joke in my family for a long, LONG time.
Syndactyly of the feet. Webbed toes, twin toes, duck toes, turkey toes or tiger toes, occur in about 1 in 2500 people. I'm one of those as well. This is one of the reasons I've always known I was different. My middle toes on both feet are conjoined up to the knuckle. I tell people I have four and two quarter toes on each foot. Before you ask, it doesn't make me a better swimmer. Nor do I quack when I get near water, well most of the time that is. They are a helluva conversation starter though.
So, if 30% of the Earth's population is Caucasian, and 1 in 2500 of them have webbed toes, and if 15% of Caucasians eyes change color with age I'm in a pretty elite mutants and freaks club. I've always known I was different.
As always, thanks for your time.
See you tomorrow.
