My name is Chip. I'm a geekanerdazoid.
My addiction began in the late 1960's when I discovered second and third-hand magazines in garage and yard sales. Magazines with titles like Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Astounding Stories, Venture Science Fiction Magazine and Analog Science Fiction and Fact. That addiction was strengthened with visits to the local library.
I'm not sure who first captured my imagination in the genre; Arthur, Isaac or Robert. One of them did. Those of you who know me, and those who may have read many of my previous attempts at this blog will undoubtedly make the "Space Cadet" association. Yes, yes I know, D'uh. Big surprise...
Television fed that addiction pushing free drugs of Jonny Quest and Space Ghost (the originals). Getting me hooked on Lost in Space and Land of the Giants. Star Trek is a story for another day, mom wouldn't let me watch it, as we only had one TV in the house. Though she wasn't a My Three Sons fan, she wasn't a Trek fan either. Star Trek interfered with her CBS Thursday night movies. So, toss in the actual Space Race that was ongoing at the time you can probably see that I was destined to become a fan of Science Fiction.
Even today, forty-some odd years later I'm still a geekanerdazoid. I still enjoy good science fiction, I still play and referee the SciFi Classic role-playing game Traveller. That too, is a story for another time.
Although the exact date is unknown, Isaak Yudovich Ozimov was probably born between October 4th, 1919 and January 2, 1920. Today marks the day one of my favored authors in the Science Fiction genre celebrated his birthday.
Thanks Isaac. Happy Birthday.
