Happy Birthday John.

Today marks the birthday of another favored author.  This one has been in the news as of late.  You'll probably figure it out before you reach the end of this post.

I discovered this storyteller a little later in my formative and impressionable youth than those I mentioned yesterday.  His first novel was required reading in my 10th grade English class.  His stories were another gateway drug in my geekanerdazoid addictions.  I've lost count of the number of times I've read his works.  I do know that I've gone through several copies of his novels, I've lost at least one set of his Big Four., I've had one set nicked, swiped, pilfered or just stolen, and I've worn one set of paperbacks out.  Carrying them in your back pocket has a tendency to do that.

Yesterday's author helped fuel the Science Fiction addiction, and led me into the Traveller Role Playing Game.

Today's writer fueled the Fantasy Fiction addiction, and led me into, ...wait for it...

...Dum-ta-da-dum...

Dungeons and Dragons.

I bet you're surprised.  Yes, I'm a survivor of the AV club / Chess Club crowd.  I am, and have been an old-school, brick and mortar, table top gamer since the late 1970's.

Thanks for taking me on that Journey,
"There and Back Again"
