Running on Empty...

Ten posts to go to make it six months.

"Yeah, good luck with that." He said, as he furiously tries to come up with drivel to post at midnight, (past for you, future for me. though only just).  It's nearly 6 pm in the wasteland, and as Buster might sing;

It's not even summertime yet.

The Wasteland Weather Service has issued a heat advisory which is in effect for Thursday.

* Timing... heat index values are expected to rise to around 40°C / 105°F on Thursday afternoon and continue into the early evening hours.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will likely lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness.  Heat stress is cumulative and this will be the fourth of at least 5 days with heat index values above 37°C / 100°F.  The very Young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and the clinically insane who are participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.  Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.  Precautionary/preparedness actions:  A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures and high humidity will occur.  This combination will create a situation in which heat-related illnesses are possible, especially for those living in un-air conditioned (Really, Un-air?) homes or apartments.  People in the advisory area are advised to avoid poorly ventilated areas and prolonged  ANY work in the sun.  Also, keep plenty of liquids on hand and try to stay in an air conditioned environment.   To reduce risk during outdoor work; the Wasteland occupational safety and health administration recommends not working in an outdoor environment.

Record Report
Issued: 3:38 PM CDT Jun. 15, 2016 – Wasteland Weather Service

...Record high temperature set at the Wasteland Regional Airport...

A record high temperature of 37°C /98° F was set at the Wasteland Regional Airport yesterday.
This surpasses the previous record of 35°C / 96°F set in 1913, 1918 and 1952.
(That would be CE, not WTZ .  Subtract 100 years for the wasteland conversion values.)

Yay us.  And it's still not even summertime yet.

There appears to be one advantage of livin' on the edge and letting the safety net expire, I'm a lot less likely to slack off for a day, or a week or two.

The Down side, you get more driveling nonsense like this.

As always, Thanks.  Be cool fools...
See you anon...

Synchronized.

Well, this is it.  Our timelines are synchronized.  June 6th, 2016.  If I don't find enough words to make a driveling ramble in the next nine hours or so, there won't be an entry at midnight and this current reboot/relaunch/mulligan/do over thingy will come to an abrupt stop.  I almost fell back into aviation related similes, metaphors and allegories.  You know, crash and burn, augur in and buy the farm.  But I resisted the temptation.  Well, mostly that is.

I restarted the Wardens of the Realm campaign yesterday.  The Royal First Wardens have survived the long cold winter on the northern frontier.  Some even prospered, hehe, with at least one child conceived during the down time.

Not mean and nasty enough...
The four mean nasties I had planned for an encounter succeeded in separating and dividing the Wardens and then quite promptly failed to provide much, read that as ANY challenge, as one fell to an extremely harsh fumbled attack and another to a extremely brutal critical hit.  The remaining two chose to fight another time.  Ugh, I suppose I need to up the ante bringing more and tougher opponents to the table.  No, it isn't D&D in any of its iterations, it is however a fantasy environment, and yes, the four mean nasties were Umberhulks.  Though, to my ear the h is silent.  Umber-ulk.

I use a modified version of Green Ronin Publishing's AGE Stunt and Fumble Criticals which allows Players, NPC's and creatures to "Roll their own" Stunts, choosing from an  à la carte menu.  At the extreme ends, the high and low on the die roll indicate harsh and brutal results, up to and including instant death.   So much for that challenge...  Ugh.

Just wait boys, (shakes fist) Imma uppin' ma game.

Now, if I can't find more words to ramble about, I fear I'll be in the same position tomorrow.  ugh squared, to the ugliest...Thanks.

See you when I see you.  Yes, I know, "Thanks for the warning, and not if you see me first..".

For what it's worth.

The Rambles are in danger of crashing.  We're clipping the trees here.  This is Tuesday, I haven't written one of these since last Wednesday.  Not counting this one, the bucket of scheduled entries runs dry on Friday, (yes, your Friday, and for the first time, mine as well.  May 20, 2015...).  Ugh. I'm certain none of us expected it would last.  I know I didn't.

This isn't filler to make the page bigger.  Really.
So, how bout' dem Bluenotes?  It took seven games to beat Chicago in the first round, and seven more to beat the Stars in the second.  Now, they are one of four teams remaining in the hunt for the Cup and in the conference finals for the first time in 15 years.  No more than 13 games remaining, seven wins away from their first championship.  (Touch wood, not that I'm superstitious or anything).

The Sharks players said they played well on Sunday night.  The boys in the Blue Note weren't happy with their performance and thought they could have played better.   St. Louis won Game one, Game two is tonight under the Arch.

The Blues lead scorer missed the morning practice, for good reason, he was at the hospital.  Aleksandr Tarasenko was born this morning, the son of proud parents  Yana and Vladimir Tarasenko.   I would imagine Grandpa, now great grandpa in Siberia is взволнован и горд, (no, I don't speak Russian.  I can barely speak English.  Google translate is your friend).  Vladimir's grandfather watches every game thanks to the NHL network that his grandson has hooked him up with.  The time difference will make for an early morning in western Siberia.

This is scheduled to post on the 24th, leaving five entries remaining to get me through until June.  Let me do the math here.  Hmm, "I put two and two together, and added twelve and carried five;" (reference), twenty-seven entries will get a full six months of Ramblin's.  Actual mileage may vary.

It is what it is, and for what it's worth is in the bag.  As always, Спасибо.

See you tomorrow.

Just ramblin'

Thursday evening and game 4 of the Playoffs are underway.  Betcha can't guess what's on TV here?  Midway through the first with no score.  Scratch that, #91 Mr. Tarasenko just hit the back of the net on the breakaway.  The Notes lost game one in Dallas, won game two in overtime, and dominated the Stars in game three, winning 6-1.  Many of the experts are predicting the Blues to win this series, (touch wood, not that I'm superstitious or anything), and move into the Conference finals.

LET'S GO BLUES!!!

Yes, still history, though not so ancient history now.  If I can get this one in before midnight, I can keep 6 entries ready to go.  Maybe I can gain a little ground over the weekend.  I wouldn't count on that though.  Seven entries (with this one) ready to post, eleven posting days before June, one holiday, and one birthday in the mix means I might be able to make it.  I wouldn't count on that either.  I suppose it depends on what I can find to ramble about.

Whatta little douchebag.  Had I done something like this when I was 15 I'm not certain I would have made it to my 16th.  Not only urinating in public, but urinating on the public.  I suppose the old saying about being pissed off is better than being pissed on applies here.   He's really lucky he isn't my kid.

I probably need to have one of these tossed to me help keep the Ramble afloat.  Oh, and maybe a dye marker or two for the rescue attempts.  Call the Coasties for a SAR bird.  This close to the shores of June I probably won't need the C-130.  A helo and the rescue swimmer will probably be enough.  Splashing around calling for a life ring, I know my luck though.  I'll shout life ring and the life guard in the tower will hear anchor...

The anchor will be about 50,000 lbs. those links weigh 150 to 200 lbs each, each shot, the 15 fathoms (90') between the red links probably tip the scales at 10,000 lbs.  The white links on either side of the red one will tell you the number of shots.  I counted at least 12 shots, 1100'.  200,000 lbs sounding like a freight train.  Turn up the volume.

A storehouse of trivial B.S.  Ugh, I hate the way my brain works sometimes.

Thanks.

See you tomorrow, most likely.

*Postscript.  Not a good night at the rink.  Saturday afternoon in Dallas game 5.

Clang, clang, clang...

It looks like I made it.  Ninety-four consecutive posts.  December 31st to April 29th.  Don't ask, I have no clue how I did it. Ninety some-odd post of rambling bird cage linings.  It's not the full 94 as there might be a couple in there I think could survive the parakeets.

So, last night; this morning actually, at 3:10 in the am yours truly decided it was bedtime.  At ohmagod it's friggin' early 6:20 I woke up enough to roll over.  It was at that very moment when my poor auld addled brain latched on to an idea.  A trivial, meaningless exercise in number crunching, for of all things, converting rules in one table top RPG to work in another.  Yeah, me poor auld addled mathematically challenged brain reached out and grabbed those thoughts and wouldn't let them go.  ARGH!!!

7 am, and I'm still awake.  Ugh, migrate to the couch and try unsuccessfully to take at least a little nap.

8 am and I'm just starting to doze off again.  HUZZAH!!!

8:15 am. CLANG, CLANG, CLANG... and it wasn't the trolley.

One clang a second for nearly 10 minutes.  Ugh again.  I thought they had finished that part of the overpass construction.

8:30 am, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG... At the risk of repeating myself, ugh.
Lather rinse repeat.
And again.
And at least one more time before I managed to crawl back into bed around 10ish.  They've stopped. YAY!!!  Until 11:31... CLANG, CLANG, CLANG... Argh...

I gave up, got up, fixed coffee and toast.

Now, it's 4:30 the doors and windows are open, birds are singing, temperatures are mild and spring-like, winds are calm, thunderstorms will pick up again later, just in time for the hockey game.  Hopefully I can stay awake.  I should take a nap now...

CLANG, CLANG, CLANG...
CLANG, CLANG, CLANG...
CLANG, CLANG, CLANG...

Ugh...Thanks...
See you on Monday, Peace...

One down, one to go.

Eleven pm and I'm trying to get something written to maintain my precious little, and rapidly dwindling lead time of 7 entries.  Crikey, zoikes, and you can even toss in an oy vey or two.  This one will publish ten days from now.  (That would be 10 days wasteland time.)

I'm still staying far away from news, politics and even Twitter.  I really have no bloody clue as to what is happening in the big wide world outside the borders of the wasteland.  Inside the borders of the wastelands isn't much better.

The Bluenotes beat Chicago yesterday, taking a 2-1 series lead into game 4 tomorrow night in Chi-town.  I'll be there, glass side...in spirit, and here with TV glass seats in body.  The Hawks will be  loaded for bear.

The bear will be lookin' tae pick a fight and bring a 3-1 lead back home to STL.
#LetsGoBlues

Yes, still old news, still not news, and more aimless rambling in the vain attempt to get to that four full months goal.

One down, and one more to go.  All that and I've managed to stock the buffer zone again, for 30 minutes...

As always, thanks.

See you tomorrow, I promise.
Well, unless I get abducted by aliens, hauled off by Homeland Security,
or suffer an unforeseen spontaneous human combustion event.
On second thought, See you tomorrow, probably...

More Drivel

I should be writing a blog post.  I should be, but I'm not.  Instead, I'm just driveling.  That's driveling, not dribbling.  I don't play basketball and I wear my Depends.

Twelve days and seven posts ahead of this one publishing.  So much for the two and a half months lead time I had.  On the plus side though, this one and two more will complete four consecutive months of the Ramble. How in the bloody hell did I manage to get 83 days of posting?

I'm still avoiding CNN and Twitter for the most part, and it is driving me bonkers being out of the current events loop.   Okay, fine, I'll admit it.  I'm addicted, I need a news fix.  However, my mental health doesn't need a news fix.  The limited amount of news that I do get can't satisfy the craving.   I must have a 16 hour a day habit.

No news, a limited amount of television, and weird absence of of any music have left it relatively quiet around here.  Spring has sprung, the doors and window are open.  Both me and Elvis (you didn't think you weren't going to get that whole big white dog thing again did you?), are enjoying the 22°c / 72°f temperatures, the low humidity and light winds. We had better enjoy it while it lasts, because it won't.  We'll have summer weather here, hot, humid and muggy; hoggy weather in the wastelands long before the calendar announces the 'official' arrival of Summertime, where the living is easy.

(There are a bazillion covers of this, one of my favorites.
So many in fact I had a hard time choosing the one to feature.
So, I fell back to one by a favorite vocalist.  Lady Day.)

It's second season hockey time, and the Bluenotes are still in it to win it.  The entire team is healthy, finally, after more than 280 man-games lost to injury.  I mentioned that the I-55/Route 66 Black and Blue rivalry would be heating up, again, some more, still?  Tonight's first round game feature the Hawks in St. Louis.  Chitown will be coming on with fire in their eyes, having lost game one in overtime.  Yes, I know.  You still don't care and it's still ancient history.  I'll give you three guesses as to what the TV will be turned to at 7 this evening.

As always, it isn't much.  It is another day closer to four months though.

I should be writing a blog post, oops, I guess I just did.

Thanks for coming, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.
Sayonara mis amigas y amigos.
See you tomorrow.
